Spanish Learning Software

Spanish learning software is a new and wonderful thing! I say new in a relative sense. Since the advent of computers there has been some form of language instruction software available. Today most packages are better than ever.

In the past if you wanted to learn Spanish you had to get a book or take a drawn out class. Today with Spanish learning software it is easier than ever to learn Spanish.

There are several options that appeal to different learning styles when using software, since the broad term software can include just about anything digital. Most Spanish learning software packages include not only written exercises but audio as well.

Let’s not stop there, as many children, teens and adults have figured out computers are a great place for games. Often when learning a foreign language it is helpful to use the format of a game to quickly and easily.

One of the best things about using computer software to learn Spanish is that it’s much cheaper than taking a college course or hiring a tutor. Most programs can be bought for under $300. Surprisingly some of the better ones are under $100.

Another advantage over using just a book is actually hearing the spoken language. It is hard to nail down pronunciations and inflection with only unfamiliar words on a page. Taking audio courses in the car can speed up the learning process and be entertaining at the same time.

Some programs include online support through e-mail and forums. This can be a huge help if you hit a snag or have trouble understanding something. It is also nice to talk to others at the same place as you for both encouragement and fun.

I have talked about some of the advantages of learning Spanish using a computer program. Now let’s talk about what to look for in the software package you choose.

When you do your research the first thing to keep in mind is your learning style. Some programs are more heavily weighted towards the visual and less toward audio learners. Keep this in mind and look for a program that fits your learning style

What is your reason for wanting to learn Spanish? Are you going on a vacation or tour of a Spanish speaking country? If so you may be less interested in writing in Spanish and more concerned with being able to ask where the bathroom is.

Look for software that is geared to your desired goal. Personally I found that learning Spanish was easy through hearing and interacting. Writing comes pretty naturally afterwards with only minimal adjustments for the slightly different alphabet.

The last and possibly most important thing to look at is the price tag. There are a lot of different programs out there and they are not all created equal. But here’s the secret: unlike most things a high price does not always mean it’s the best.

Not to say that the higher priced packages out there don’t work. Most of them are very good programs with a very high price. They also tend to be so detailed that it takes forever to learn even the basics.

I mentioned before my love of learning by doing. The best way to do this is to listen and practice through conversation. While doing this you can check the grammar behind what you are saying and hearing. This can be a powerful and fast way to learn.

There are programs out there that offer this fast learning style while not skimping on the meat of the language. My favorite Spanish learning software is just under $100.

Whatever your reason for learning Spanish, remember to have fun doing it. Knowing another language can open the door to a new career, relationship, or even help you find the bathroom at your time of greatest need.
